This gripping and deeply personal story follows Marty’s extraordinary life—from his Mormon upbringing to his time in the military and his eventual search for meaning beyond faith. Raised in a trailer park, Marty navigated a difficult childhood marked by family struggles, high school challenges, and seminary experiences that shaped his early belief system. Determined to serve, he embarked on a Mormon mission to Jamaica, confronting doubts and spiritual crises along the way.
Returning home, Marty battled depression before enlisting in the military—just as 9/11 changed the world. Deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, he faced the brutal realities of war, questioning the ethics of combat, his faith in God, and his own identity. Witnessing death, dealing with loss—including his brother’s tragic passing—Marty wrestled with the doctrines of Mormonism and the teachings that had once given him comfort.
His story takes a powerful turn as he explores historical truths about his religion, diving into books like Rough Stone Rolling and No Man Knows My History. Torn between devotion and newfound skepticism, he seeks answers from church leaders but finds none. As his doubts grow, he ultimately reaches a heartbreaking realization: It’s not true.
Despite the pain of leaving behind the faith that defined his life, Marty embraces a new path—one of humanism, family, and healing. The birth of his daughter shifts his perspective, and working on his farm becomes a source of solace. He reflects on his evolving views on LGBTQ+ rights, morality, and the meaning of existence outside organized religion.
From combat zones to spiritual awakenings, this is a raw and honest account of resilience, transformation, and finding peace beyond faith. Whether you’ve questioned your own beliefs, served in the military, or simply appreciate powerful life stories, Marty’s journey will leave a lasting impact.
Watch now for a profound exploration of faith, war, trauma, and the pursuit of truth.

Are you guys going to fix the Marty Martin episode? He is right in the middle of telling his ranger school story and it jumps to him saying he started having doubts in the Church. A lot of info was skipped.
Should be fixed now Daniel!
