Join us now for today’s Mormon Stories Podcast episode as we interview ex-Jehovah’s Witness Amber Scorah and author of the book: “Leaving the Witness: Exiting Religion and Finding a Life.” We enjoyed an intimate evening at the Salt Lake City Community of Christ with a live audience, where questions were asked regarding her experience as a Jehovah’s Witness, including some of the parallels between her former religion and Mormonism.

The Mormonism I grew up with didn’t teach anything about a literal hell. I was taught that even the lowest degree of glory was so awesone that if we could see it now we’d never want to come back to earth and this life. The hell of it would be that you are separated from your family for time and all eternity which is quite motivating for most tbms. It’s odd how these apocalyptic predictions that don’t happen are simply ignored by true believers. My Grandmother recieved her patriachal blessing when she got married around 1918 and it actually said she would live to witness the second coming of Christ. She made sure the entire family knew about this. Unfortunatley she died in the early 80’s still waiting and yet the vast majority of her offspring are still tbms today.
