  1. It wasn’t really touched on, but the original hoax was to play a joke on the local mormons. It was not to ensnair Joseph Smith. The joke went far beyond what the original perpetrators wanted.

  2. Stop with the “neutral, balanced, objective” stuff already. It’s patently obvious those adjectives don’t fit what you are doing. Evidence-based, yes. Dispassionate, maybe.
