  1. Women wearing pants at BYU changed when a gal wearing pants tried to take a test at the testing center on a saturday was turned away so she having a long coat went to a bathroom, removed her pants then went back to the testing center and was allowed in. Her story made some news sources. So BYU subtly stopped telling women not to wear pants. Even though it took years for the rumor to get around to all women they could wear pants on campus.

  2. Where does this trope about “mormon relief trucks arriving first in Florida” come from?
My mother has made the same statement during previous hurricanes.
Is there a finish line for relief trucks where aid organizations are ranked?
Or is this another faith promoting rumor?
Been in Florida 30 years, I’ve never heard any locals comment on speedy mormon trucks.

  3. I totally agree with Sam on this one it’s so incredibly harmful and hurtful and that cannot be said enough within the church

  4. Great episode! Like the variety of input very much. Having your dad on was a treat!

John you mentioned the Widow’s Mite Report. They studied 10 years of annual reports for LDS Charities and decoded the numbers for the rest of us. It is a lot more than showing how volunteer hours are counted in the dollars. Worth linking. Couldn’t recommend that study more highly. It’s found at:

  5. The talk that says I get to choose who to marry… As a Native American the church says I’m supposed to marry a Native American.
My parents met when I was 3 years old and my dad was raised on a reservation but it’s white and my mom is native and raised in a city. They chose one another to marry however a couple years later there was “talk” among the local leaders they may have to have their ceiling canceled because they aren’t of the same race. Fortunately they decided since my dad was raised on a reservation new enough culture that they could still be together
So no we really can’t choose who we marry That was traumatizing for a little kid to think her parents had to be divorced

  6. Now that we “know” that Joseph Smith “translated” the Book of Mormon with a peep stone not using the golden plates written in “Reformed Egyptian” …. whatever that is ….what is the need of the brass plates or any plates if God has the scriptures on a “cloud” that can be retrieved by any instrumentality—-even an occult-type of methodology like looking at a rock in a hat? The justification of murder by God is a very sketchy doctrine to establish in the minds of people. Oh …wait…..Manifest Destiny. I suppose murder is ok so long as God reveals the righteousness of it? Really? Then again maybe this fantastical story of murder should be weighed against the Toronto revelation when God shared with Joseph Smith that the revelation JS gave to sell the copyright to the BoM in Toronto was not an actual revelation from God; rather from either himself or Satan. Not this topic is a mass of confusion is it not?
