I love Listening to John but when he is F-ing conservatives and capitalism with such a vial tone it discusses me. nature will respond and possibly kill a bunch off in the process.
Luv mormon stories but this one was not tastefully communicated.
I grew up in Eastern Nevada and I remember how white the salt flats were. Now the salt flats is gray.
If people drank more beer and wine our thirst for water would decrease.
If water weren’t required to produce both.

At one time someone was looking at piping water under the Wasatch Mtns stealing water from the Green River? or the poor overused Colorado?

I very much appreciated most of this. I’m just as frustrated with politicians but you are just wrong to say Democrats and Republicans are equally negligent on climate change. That is a ridiculous over generalization.
Some corrections about California and the Mormons. Some of the Mormons DID go to California. There was a ship called The Brooklyn, which left from New York, with Mormons aboard. My ancestor helped fund the voyage, and my grandmother wrote a book about it. The Mormon Saints aboard the Brooklyn arrived in California much earlier than the “plains” saints arrived in Utah, and experienced a lower mortality rate. The California Saints wrote to Brigham Young and encouraged him to continue on to California to establish Mormonism, but he decided Utah was far enough. The establishment of Mormonism in Utah was probably what allowed it to thrive, as it was isolated from normal society for entire generations, and became the only foundational world view. I, for one, am glad I was a “California Mormon” and thank Satan CA isn’t the state overrun by Mormons. ;)

Always appreciate the honesty of John Larsen . He is a knowledgeable man in a broad sense and a divergent thinker and always helps me see different points of view and as a Mormon guy that grew up in the faith in Cache Valley there are a lot of good memories tied up in that history . I’ve gained a lot of experience living in bush Alaska , with the Yupik people , now for 40 year that has helped me appreciate my upbringing and the good kind folks in my ward in Logan . This episode renewed those feelings as John has the same from his upbringing . The good people that took care of each other . The sense of community we all felt .
BTW….we once had a governor here in AK that could see the future to a degree . He knew the future value of water and proposed a pipeline from AK to the lower 48 . To provide water , which we have an abundant supply of here .
Way too much of a rant! Need to focus on the mormon issues!
John Larsen needs to spend more time doing research and providing insights into mormonism. Like he did on Mormon Expressions. Too often lately his podcasts have just become his time to expound on his political views. If I want politics I can watch cable tv, I listen to Mormon Stories for the mormon issues.
One thing I like about John Larsen is he always speaks with conviction right or wrong, like a politician. It’s always important to remember there’s another side to the coin. I’m all for moving towards clean energy/environment, it’s a human issue. The $5-$10 gas is hurting the poorest amongst us, a canceled pipeline(s)/lower supply, has consequences. Unfortunately Climate Change has been politicized as was the recent Pandemic. Always follow the “MONEY” and the “POWER GRAB” to know what’s really going on. Give the people reliable statistics, transparency in where the money is going (spend money ear marked for the environment on the environment, not as part of some broader pork barrel agenda) and the people regardless of political persuasion will get on board. Will this happen? Absolutely not, it’s way too practical. A good crises never goes to waste.
As for me I enjoyed the topic and always appreciate the effort!
I enjoyed this episode and appreciate the topic. I heard several individuals ask when he was going to debunk the LDS Church, and I think those who asked that missed the big point.
The point of all this is that God forgot to tell the Saints that, this may not really be the place. That The Place was about 1050 years into a mega-draught. That the natural resources needed to be conserved. That maybe the second biggest open pit mine in the world might not be ideal to live next to. That water would be sparce in the years to come and to conserve NOW. He forgot to tell the Priesthood to conserve the resource of water and to protect the Great, Salt Lake. He didn’t mention the smelters that lined the Jordan River might cause some of the highest autism rates in the country (more than 1 in 50 babies).
I grew up in Sugarhouse and as I look up and down my parents neighborhood, which was once and still is filled with God fearing Saints, who didn’t drink, smoke, or otherwise abuse their bodies, and every single house as been impacted by major cancer. Lymphoma, brain tumor, breast, lung, and a variety of internal cancers. This isn’t lifestyle, it’s environment.
For me, the point of this was that the LDS Church either didn’t listen to God when he told them to care for the earth, or they aren’t as inspired as they think they are. They’re definitely money grubbing hoarders who choose to keep a bunch of cash instead of feed the poor, help the world, and do what Jesus would have done.
Dear lord John L’s mic is an atrocious piece of hardware. Burn it.
