  1. You are spot on John on the lack of LDS leadership on the gun issue. Why? Fear of their gun nut member base and tax issues. You John are a Republican, and the truth is John that nothing gets done on this deadly issue largely because of the party you follow. But this is not an ideological issue. It’s about gaining and retaining raw political power. In fairness let me say that there are some Democrats are not all immune to the lure of NRA/gun manufacturer money.

  2. I can’t find these “show notes” referred to. I’d like to know what “leaked” info/podcast that y’all discussed re Temple Dept member opinion.

  3. There was no joy no love no hope in Bednars talk. He says nothing that Jesus would have said !
It was cold impersonal facts all given in an effort to brag about how big and powerful snd amazing the Mormon church is

Really must have been miserable to be in his audience

    Bednar doesn’t know Jesus
What would jests have said? first he would have shown love snd appreciation for those in attendance— snd then given words if inspiration love Hope and
    Forgiveness

Bednars talk had No love. Completely impersonal
So cold. Just an opportunity to try and make the church look good

It was like the ceo or lawyer of a corporation The church lawyers must have written it

Absolutely no Jesus in his words or spirit. Jesus was not there.with him. Jesus has. Nothing to do with bednar

To me it was one of the most obvious examples of an apostle that has no spirit of Christ

Any person would feel so cold spiritually untouched by this man who cares only about facts snd rules snd looking good

If this is the best the cult has to offer it is truly become a cult corporation — with no connection to Jesus

  4. Great episode!! You all do such a great job. Some comments I have about the membership numbers.
To have about 5-600 members in a unit/ward would be about right. Of course that’s an average, and that it total members, not just the active/attending ones. I served my mission in Santiago, Chile in 1998-2000 and I remember the ward lists being huge, like 500 or sometimes even 800 members. But that’s on the roles. Actual attendance was around 60-100 for a ward, and less than that for a branch. So about 10% activity rates on average. The really “big” wards would have about 120 attending each Sunday.
Back home in Utah to have higher activity rates, there might be 200 or 250 that are active and attending.
So, to have about 31000 units, with about total members on roles of 5-600 per unit to get 17 million members would be about right.
This highlights what you have talked about on MS before, activity rates in the church are low. And they keep people on the roles forever unless they want to be removed.
They just love to throw out the overall membership numbers, and Bednar is lying when he says they just don’t know the numbers and they can’t trust the numbers. Of course they can, they take attendance every week. They are very interested in numbers, as evidenced by his speech and how every aspect of the missionary efforts is measured. It’s all about the numbers, and money!

  5. Agree about the continued polygamy. People do not understand just how important the concept of “eternal” marriage is to the LDS. Mitt Romney’s brother Scott is sealed to three women…and going strong.
