In today’s episode, we are diving into some of the most shocking Mormon-themed entries from Ruby Franke’s journal with the well-known true crime and news TikTokker, Julie Louise. Gerardo and John will break down the journal’s themes, looking at how they tie back to Latter-day Saint doctrine and practices. Julie knows the Franke/Hildebrandt story inside out, but is a never-Mormon. Combined we hope to provide top-notch commentary and insights as we walk through these pages together.

Not sure if comments are reviewed after broadcast, but something came to mind that should be pointed out. In the commentary, it was noted that R had diarrhea after “sneaking” water from the water hose. In many communities now, the water coming from a garden hose is from a secondary water source and the water is untreated. The child’s diarrhea may be related to being malnourished, but there is the possibility that he may have contracted an intestinal parasite or infection from untreated water.
One thing I find interesting is that I don’t recall much talk of evil spirits, exorcism, etc. back in the late 60s when my family was converted and I was at BYU. Granted, I never believed in the church and never attended church while at BYU but I had very devout siblings I was close to and I was pretty familiar with the current vibe of the church at that time. Maybe it was a relatively liberal period during the McKay years.
This is Jessi Hildebrandt, not Julie Louise.
