For the past 20 years I have been providing support, counseling, and therapy for Mormons navigating a faith transition, and for the past 10 years I have been partnering with Natasha Helfer Parker and Margi Dehlin in this work.
This presentation represents my best attempt at explaining:
- Many of the core existential and psychological challenges faced as part of the human condition.
- How/why religions emerge to provide value.
- How a religious faith crisis is normal/healthy/universal part of the maturation process (and is not in any way a uniquely Mormon experience).
- How to reframe a religious faith transition – to move from seeing it as a crisis, to seeing it more as an opportunity/gift.
This presentation was delivered in August, 2019, in Salt Lake City, Utah – as part of a Mormon Faith Crisis retreat. 40 audience members participated. The full retreat can be found here.
