I was minding my own business, listening to Terry Gross’ Fresh Air — and what to my surprise did I discover?

There is a new comedy troup running around called the “Axis of Evil Comedy Tour“.

What’s even more interesting (to us, at least) is that one of the comedians was introduced by Ms. Gross as the “son of an Arab father and a Mormon mother.” Turns out it’s Omar Kader’s son (who is also Mormon by the way, or at least was).

This may be old news to all of you, but it’s new news to me.

When I was studying Political Science at BYU I once heard Omar Kader speak, and was greatly influenced thereby.

Anyway, check it out! It’s kinda funny. If any of ya’ll can help me w/ a contact, I’d love to add him to my interview que.

I had a call w/ Interview #1 from the upcoming Women in Mormonism series…as soon as she’s ready, I am. Probably 2 more weeks. I may try to do something in the mean time.

You can find Aron Kader at http://www.aronkader.com. He tours all the time alone or with the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour: http://www.axisofevilcomedy.com. He does a few mormon jokes too, like “When they asked me to go on a Mission I said, ‘Yeah, you know, to an Arab, a Mission is a whole other thing. We generally don’t come back from those.'”

I was puzzled by the comment which did not refer to Omar (Aron’s dad) being LDS. I heard him speak about 7 or 8 years ago in Orem and he was definitely still LDS. Does anybody know if that has changed?

Omar Kader gave a speech at UVSC today (Oct. 16, 2007)on “What’s at Stake in Iraq for America?” In his speech he stated things such as he was a Democrat who doesn’t support the Bush administration. He also called Mitt Romney “a creep”. From his speech I had the impression that he used to be LDS but is not anymore.
